At 9:35, November 27, Mr. Zhang Wei on Flight MU2335 flying from Shanghai became the 30,000,000th passenger of Xianyang Airport this year. By far, Xianyang Airport has become the 8th domestic airport with an annual passenger throughput over 30 million, making it one of the global busy airports.
Recent years have been Xianyang Airport making exciting achievements under the leadership of Shaanxi Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, the Civil Aviation Administration, the Civil Aviation Northwest China Administration and the Group, and the great support and cooperation from the Civil Aviation Northwest Air Control Bureau, China National Aviation Fuel Northwest Corporation, Port Office, joint inspection authorizes and stationed airlines. Adhering to the aviation main battlefield strategy and centering on hub construction, Xianyang Airport has continuously accelerated main business development, focused on improving infrastructure, scientifically organized production, and strengthened safety control. The number of passengers has maintained a robust growth momentum with an average annual increase of 12.8%; annual international (regional) passengers have increased by 5.5 times with an average annual rise of 41%. The 270-air route network covered 147 destinations in domestic one million-passenger airports, connecting Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan efficiently, and realizing big breakthroughs in European and American air routes. At the end of the year, international air routes from Xi`an to Roman, Sydney and Tokyo will be opened, making a more extensive hub network. Moreover, the air freight business of Xianyang Airport has realized a rapid two-digit growth. With the stable operation of 5 regular domestic and foreign freight air routes and the introduction of such logistics operators as SF Express and YT Express, the annual freight volume has increased to 210,000 tons, ranking first among China`s Top Ten Airports in terms of growth rate.
Meanwhile, Xianyang Airport has picked up its pace of infrastructure construction. In early 2012, the P2 airport expansion project was officially put into operation, making Xianyang Airport Northwest China`s first 3-terminal and 2-runway civil airport. In 2013; Northwest China`s largest air freight center was put into use in Xianyang Airport. With a storage area of 48,000 m2, and a designed annual handling capacity of 400,000 tons, it can meet diversified cargo storage demand, building an important platform to promote the development of modern logistics, service industry and port industry. In this April, the 60,000-m2 international airside concourse was completed and put into operation. Meeting the demand of 5 million passengers, it has further laid a foundation for the development of international (regional) business.
Aiming to build the most influential international hub on the Silk Road Economic Belt and a national aviation hub in West China in the next five years, Xianyang Airport will push for three transformations from a regional hub to an international hub, from an aviation hub to an integrated hub, and from a traditional airport to a smart airport. For this, Xianyang Airport will continue to develop the main airline business, and focus on expanding international air route network led by the goal of "Running through the Silk Road, Bringing Europe and Asia Closer, Connecting the U.S. and Australia, and Making Freight Breakthroughs" while improving domestic air route network. By the end of the 13th Five-year Plan Period, Xianyang Airport is aimed to have 380,000 takeoffs and lands, a passenger throughput of 50 million, and a freight throughput of 300,000 tons, with an annual average growth of 7.4%, 8.8% and 7.4% respectively. Furthermore, Xianyang Airport is expected to carry 5 million international (regional) passengers with an annual average growth of 25% and make its way into top 40 airports globally. In the future, Xianyang Airport will be built into an international mega integrated transport hub handling 100 million passengers, 5 runways, one main terminal area and one auxiliary terminal area. Connecting highways, railways and inter-city rails, Xianyang Airport will have 50 square kilometers of core and supporting functional areas.
Inspired to build the starting point of the Aerial Silk Road, and an international hub airport, Xianyang Airport members will uphold the core values of "Create a career for employees, achieving customer satisfaction, bringing wealth to business owners and civilization to the society". We will further work together to make greater contributions for the takeoff of Northwest China civil aviation undertaking, local economic and social development and the drive of rejuvenating the country with civil aviation and One Belt One Road.
