Yinchuan Hedong Airport

Initially built in 1995, Yinchuan Hedong International Airport was officially open to air traffic on September 6th, 1997, and it now has become an important window that showcases the achievements made by the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in opening-up and reform. The airport is 19km away from the center of Yinchuan City, and the flight zone of the airport belongs to Class 4D. The runway is 3,200m long and 45m wide, capable of accommodating the take-off and landing of Boeing 747 and all the plane models below this level, and the airport is a domestic trunk-line airport. The airport covers an area of 5,560 mu, has an altitude of 1100m, the existing terminal building has an area of 47,000 m2, the station site covers an area of 120,000 m2, and there are 22 parking bays and 10 boarding bridges. In 2013, the passenger throughput made a breakthrough of 4248,000 person-time, 39,100 sorties of transportation flight and 29,100 tons of cargo throughput.

Currently, Yinchuan Hedong International Airport accommodates 51 domestic flight routes that reach 50 domestic cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi'an and Chengdu, etc. under the operation of 18 air transportation enterprises, such as Air China, China Eastern Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines. The airport also accommodates 3 international flight routes, namely, Yinchuan-Kunming-Dubai, Yinchuan-Seoul and Yinchuan-Kunming-Bangkok, 2 regional flight routes, namely, Yinchuan-Hong Kong and Yinchuan-Taipei, and direct flights can reach all the provincial capital cities of China at the beginning of 2013. 

In June 2013, the feasibility study report for Phase III expansion project of Yinchuan Airport acquired the official reply from National Development and Reform Commission; in September 2013, the preliminary design of Phase III expansion project of Yinchuan Airport obtained the official reply from the Development and Reform Commission of the autonomous region and Northwest Civil Aviation Authority. Currently, the Phase III expansion project of Yinchuan Hedong International Airport has been started comprehensively. After the completion, there will be terminal building of 80,000 m2, station site of 178,600 m2, parking space of 53,200 m2, and freight warehouse of 9,205 m2. The runway will be extended to 3600m long, and the airport class will be elevated to Class 4E. It can meet the development requirements in 2020 when there will be 89,000 sorties of flights and the passenger throughput will reach 10 million person-time every year, and there will be 3,651 person-time of passenger throughput and 32 sorties at peak hour, and the cargo throughput will reach 100,000 tons.
