As the airport of provincial capital, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is the core airport affiliated to West Airport Group, and it is an important airport for civil use in West China. The airport, located at the central
mainland China, radiates in four directions. Amid the beautiful and rich vast Qinchuan stretch, it bestrides the Loess Plateau, north of Weibei. The airport is 25km from the center of Xi'an, and 13km from the center of Xianyang City, being a Class 4F airport for civil use.
Xi'an International Airport is the trunk-line airport, international scheduled flight airport and one of the top 10 airports in China, and it is also one of the top 8 airports planned by CAAC. In addition, it serves as the base airport of China Eastern Airlines Group, North West Company, Chang'an Hainan Airlines Group Company, China Southern Airlines Group Xi'an Branch, Tianjin Airlines Xi'an Branch, Joy Air Co., Ltd. and Shenzhen Airlines Xi'an Branch. Currently, Xianyang Airport has established aviation business with more than 44 airline companies both home and abroad, and there are 128 navigable points and 242 flight routes, with 25 routes connecting with 22 domestic and foreign cities. In 2013, the passenger throughput reached 26.04 million person-time, ranking 8th in the country.
On September 10th, 2008, the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport Co., Ltd., co-financed by West Airport Corporation, Frankfurt Airport Group, China Airlines (Group) Co., Ltd. and West Airport Group Aviation Ground Service (Xi'an) Co., Ltd., was officially listed and established, ushering in a new chapter of the airport development. In May 2012, the Phase II expansion project with a total investment of nearly RMB 10 billion was put into use. Coving a total area of 450,000 m2, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is in possession of 3 terminal buildings, 123 parking bays and 2 runways, capable of providing air traffic service for A380, the plane with world's largest passenger capacity, and it is a large-scale regional hub airport that can meet the expected requirements of 50 million passenger throughput in 2020. Since its relocation in 1991, under the support and wise leadership of governments at all levels, Xi'an Xianyang International Airport continuously expands the space, optimizes the service, and strives to strengthen the management during the development process of more than two decades to ensure the sustainable and rapid development of the airport. It plays an important part in accelerating the opening-up and economic cooperation of Shanxi and promoting the overall development of economy and society in western regions.
